Baby Milestones: Month 2

Baby’s Development

By the end of the month your baby should be able to:*

  • Smile
  • Track objects with eyes
  • Make noises other than crying
  • Repeat vowel noises, such as “ah” or “ooh”
  • Enjoy being held and spoken to

*All babies are different and reach milestones on their own developmental timelines. If your baby has not reached one of the developmental items, rest assured your little one should be able to do so shortly.

Activities

Cuddly Soft!

Babies love to feel different textures. Introduce new textures to your little one by rubbing your baby’s sensitive skin with soft textures such as satin, cotton, or velvet. You may also try laying your baby on different surfaces, such as a soft bath towel or comforter, or slightly warmer and colder temperatures. The possibilities are endless, and you and your baby will enjoy this play time together.

Simon Says

Take time to watch your baby’s movements. Try opening and closing your hand and see if he or she will imitate the movement. Raise your pointer finger and close your fist. These random movements will catch the attention of your baby. As he or she develops, they will be better able to mimic your movements.

Just For Mom

Mom, you are doing a lot these first few months. Have you thought about what specifically you are doing to treat yourself? It’s important to take time just for you. A few inexpensive ways to treat yourself may include:

  • Buying a new color of lipstick
  • Taking a bubble bath
  • Getting a manicure at a local salon
  • Purchasing a fun magazine you may have read before your pregnancy.
