Baby’s Development
By the end of the month your baby should be able to:*
- Keep head level when held in a sitting position
- Make some vowel-consonant sounds
- Sit with minimal support
- Open mouth for a spoon
- Reach for and grab objects
- Roll over and back again
- Drink from a cup with help
- Hold a baby bottle
- Copy some facial expressions
*All babies are different and reach milestones on their own developmental timelines. If your baby has not reached one of the developmental items, so rest assured that he or she should be able to do so shortly.
Activities
Fun in the Tub!
Take cups of varying sizes into the bath tub with your baby. Fill each cup with water and then empty. Use one cup to fill another cup. This exercise helps to build your baby’s understanding of cause and effect.
Just For Mom
Hey. When is the last time you’ve seen a movie or been out to dinner (no, fast food doesn’t count)? Plan an evening. Don’t feel guilty having a family member or close friend watch your baby. You deserve some adult fun.
Did You Know?
- There are approximately 15-19 sets of quintuplets born every year in the United States
- The largest number of children born to one woman was recorded at 69. From 1725 to 1765 a Russian peasant woman gave birth to 16 sets of twins, seven sets of triplets, and four sets of quadruplets. Wow.
