Baby Milestones: Month 8
Baby’s Development
By the end of the month your baby should be able to:*
- Chew on objects
- Reach for utensils when being fed
- Turn head away when finished eating
- Sleep between 11 – 13 hours a night
- Roll all the way around
- Sit unsupported
- Get on arms and knees in crawling position
- Develop specific cries based on their needs
- Babble enthusiastically
- Test gravity by dropping objects over the edge of a high chair
- Respond to their name
- Demonstrate different reactions for different family members
- Show resistance or anxiety when removed from your care
*All babies are different and reach milestones on their own developmental timelines. If your baby has not reached one of the developmental items, rest assured that he or she should be able to do so shortly.
Activities
Take Me!
Visiting new environments is good stimulation for your baby. Take your little one with you to the supermarket, library, museums, the zoo, and other busy places. Seeing the sights will help build awareness.
Starting Good Habits Early
Show your baby how to take toys out and put them back again. This is the right stage for starting good habits like straightening up toy areas. As your baby develops, his or her sense of clean-up will too.
Just For Mom
When is the last time you did something for yourself? Visit a makeup counter at a local department store and get a free makeover! Even if you don't normally wear makeup, these services are usually free and you'll feel fantastic when you're done. Try to do it on a day when you have a "date" planned. Your partner will be wowed, and you'll feel terrific!
